 Australia

Australian Music and Art Research Group

Established in 2017, the Australian Music and Art Research Group is based at the School of Creative Arts, University of Tasmania. It fosters scholarly and practical research into the intersections between music and visual culture, including – but not limited to – the study of music iconography and the development of new creative work.

 Austria

Institut für Musikwissenschaft, Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck

Since the appointment of Walter Salmen as chair of the Department of Musicology of the University of Innsbruck (1972-1992) music iconography has been one of the major research focus of this institution, including the relationship between music and the visual arts.

 Brazil

RIdIM Brasil

RIdIMBrazil was founded in Salvador, Bahia, in February 2008, as the national centre for  the indexing, cataloguing, research and dissemination of Brazilian music iconography.

 France

Institut de Recherche en Musicologie (IReMus)

Research and cataloguing projects related to music iconography have been established in France since 1967 on the initiative of Geneviève Thibault Comtesse de Chambure and Albert Pomme de Mirimonde. In 1996 the Institut de recherche sur le patrimoine musical en France (IRPMF) was founded and includes a strong a focus on research and cataloguing of music iconography subject matters. In 2014 the IRPMF merged with two research units of the University of Paris-Sorbonne, i.e. the Obervatoire Musical Français (OMF) and the Patrimoines et Langages Musicaux (PLM), to the Institute de Research en Musicologie (IReMus).

 Germany

RIdIM Arbeitsstelle Deutschland

RIdIM Germany was established in 1979 as a subsection of the German RISM research group. Its headquarters is housed at the Bavarian State Library in Munich.

 Greece

Archive of Musical Iconography and Literary Sources

The Archive of Musical Iconography and Literary Sources was founded in 1996 as an independent workshop that supported both courses and research on the field of Musical Iconography in the Department of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It was soon established as an autonomous research project and received funds from the University and other institutions.

 Iran

Society of Iranian Music Iconography

The Society of Iranian Music Iconography (SIMI) is an independent research society founded and directed by Dr Maryam Dolatifard, an iconographer, art researcher, and musicician. SIMI is dedicated to the promotion of research in the iconography of Iranian music and performing arts. In addition SIMI promotes the cataloguing of visual source material and arranges workshops and conferences in the area of Iranian music iconography. SIMI is the only Working Group of Association Répertoire International d’Iconographie Musicale (RIdIM) in Iran.

 Italy

Istituto per i Beni Musicali in Piemonte (Torino)

The Istituto per i Beni Musicali in Piemonte is based in Turin and promotes and supports research and documentation projects related to the culture and music of the Piedmont.

 Mexico

The main objectives of RIdIM México are to share, discuss and reflect about all kind of images and visual media that provide historical information about music and scenic arts (dance, opera, music theatre, etc,) in Mexico: musical instruments, composition, choreography, performance, notation, reception, artists, audiences, collections, museums, theaters, etc. Its main activities embrace: 1. Collaboration with  the Association RIdIM Databe on Mexican images and issues, 2. Creation of a network of researchers working on Mexico’s music iconography, 3. Design, support and and counseling of individual and collective research projects, 4. Realisation of and support for collective research projects, 5. Organisation of academic events collaborating with different national and international institutions, 6. Exchange of academic experiences with other RIdIM National Centres and Working Groups, and 7. Dissemination activities and projects in national and international levels through digital media. Grupo Complutense de Iconografía Musical

The Grupo Complutense de Iconografía Musical was founded in 2005 focusing on cataloguing, research and documentation projects related to music iconography.

Asociación Española De Documentación Musical (AEDOM): Catálogo de Iconografía Musical Española

The working group Catálogo de Iconografía Muscial Española of AEDOM was founded in 2007. Its main objectives are the study, documentation and dissemination of the musical iconographic heritage of the Iberian Peninsula.

Musik- och teaterbiblioteket

The Music and Theatre Library of Sweden is a public library with extensive collections of musical scores and sheet music available for loan, for a wide range of ensembles and genres, as well as a large stock of literature and magazines regarding music and theatre.

Research Center for Music Iconography

The Research Center for Music Iconography (RCMI) was established in 1972 by Barry S. Brook with assistance of Emanuel Winternitz, to conduct research into musical subject matter represented in artworks
