Practical Information: St. Petersburg and Conference Venue

St. Petersburg Saint Petersburg is one of the most unpredictable, charming cities in Russia. Its location on the Finnish Bay sending water rays across downtown, and a vibrant atmosphere, attracts people of different ages, interests and cultures. The city is multicultural by origin, being surrounded by other nations. Nowadays it is—along with Moscow—a world leader in tourist attractions. It has more than 200 museums, including the Hermitage and the Russian Museum, some 70 theatres, among which one can mention Mariinsky Theatre, Mikhailovsky Theatre, and Tovstonogov Drama Theatre, alongside 1,100 libraries. St. Petersburg hosts in the region 4 new exhibitions daily, whilst annually it has about 120 premieres and 300 festivals.

Conference Venue: The Rimsky-Korsakov Apartment and Museum

Rimsky-Korsakov Apartment and Museum Rimsky-Korsakov’s apartment is a unique composer’s museum in St. Petersburg. Here Rimsky-Korsakov spent the last 15 years of his life, and composed 11 of his 15 operas. The memorial part of the Museum consists of 4 rooms—study, living and dining rooms, and the anteroom, where original family possessions are displayed. As it did during Rimsky-Korsakov’s own lifetime, the apartment hosts chamber evenings, inviting leading soloists of theatres and philharmonic halls to perform. During the weekend, one can find this museum full of toddlers and their parents. Twice a year the Museum changes into a temporary exhibition hall, and shows different operas by the composer from an historical performance perspective. The collection of the Theatre Museum consists of original nineteenth-century costumes, scenery and production, and authentic photographs.
